My December

Temperature: With a mean temperature for the month of 15.8C, its about the middle of my averages for December. The warmest day was the 30th with 32.2C, the second warmest December day I've recorded to date, the warmest being 16 Dec 2007 with 33.5C. Coldest temperature was 5.7C on the 22nd. The coldest December temperature I've recorded is 1.3C on 2nd Dec 2006 following a southerly the previous day. There were 15 days when the temperature was at or above 20C, my record is 23 in 2002 and my average is 17. There were 6 days when the temperature was at or above 25C which is my average and my record is 11 days in 2003. There was 1 day where the temperature was at or above 30C, my record is 3 in Dec 2007.

Wind: (Records from 2001) The monthly wind run of 6375km is a little more than my December average of 6218km. The windiest December was 2004 with 6940km. Prevailing wind direction was north east recorded 56% of the month, south 17%, north 11%, south west 10%, nor'west 4%, west and SE 1%. Maximum gust was 53km/h from the north east on the 23rd. There are few days in the past 9 years where the nor'easterly has exceeded 50km/h here.

Rainfall: With 75.2mm of rain, this December was a little above the December average of 62mm. My wettest December was 2004 with 137.8mm and the driest was 2003 with just 2mm on 1 day.

Barometer: (Records from 2006) The average pressure for the month was the lowest of the 3 Decembers I have records for at 1007.6 hPa. The lowest pressure recorded on the 16th, 982.7 hPa also the lowest for the 3 Decembers I have recorded as was the maximum pressure for the month, 1023.5 hPa. Highest pressure for December in my records is 1031.8 hPa in 2007.
