My November

Temperature: With a mean temperature for the month of 14.5C, this November was the warmest I've recorded. The highest temperature was 30.8C on the 15th, the second warmest November day to date. There was a frost on the 6th with a minimum temperature of -1.0C. This is the lowest November temperature since 5th November 2001 with -1.2C, my current record minimum temperature for November. 2000 has my November record of 2 days where temperatures were at or below 0C at some part of the day. 2001 and this November have 1 day. There were 15 days when the temperature was at or above 20C, my record is 16 in 2004 and my average is 12. There were 9 days when the temperature was at or above 25C, a new November record for my station with the previous record being 7 in 2006. There were 2 days where the temperature was at or above 30C, my record is 3 in 2005.

Wind: (Records from 2001) The monthly wind run of 5526km is just under my November average of 5641km. My windiest November is 2002 with 6978km. Prevailing wind direction was north east recorded 50% of the month, north 20%, south 19% , north west 5%, south west 4%, west 2%, south east 1%. Maximum gust was 65km/h from the south on the 1st. My current November record is 66km/h from the nor'west in 2002.

Rainfall: With 11.4mm over 2 days, this November was the driest November I've recorded. Average rain fall for November is 55.6mm over 9 days. The wettest November I've recorded is 2002 with 143.6mm with 14 rain days with a record daily total of 56mm in the 19th Nov in the same year.

Barometer: (Records from 2006) The average pressure for this November was 1008.9hPa, my November average is 1009.2. Maximum pressure was 1026.8, the highest November pressure I've recorded and this November also recorded the lowest pressure with 969.4hPa.

The max temperature for the day was recorded at 2am. Daytime temperatures varied between around 4C to 11C depending on shower activity. Cold southerly winds with showers and hail during the day. A shower at 6:40pm when the temperature here dropped to 4.0C left snow on Sugarloaf. A photo taken at 6:45 after when the cloud had cleared is here . Showers in the morning with the temperature dropping to 1.4C at 8:10am. Sleet and snow reported in and around Christchurch. Another dusting of snow was visible on Sugarloaf after the cloud lifted but soon melted. Cold southerly winds with cloud breaking in the afternoon.
