My August

Temperature: My mean temperature for the month was 6.4C, August was the coldest of the winter months (June, July, August). The highest temperature was 19.4C on the 22nd, the coldest -3.5C on the 11th which was the coldest temperature recorded this year to date. I recorded 8 days where temperatures were at or below 0C at some part of the day which is close to the August average of 7. 2000 has my August record of 17 days where temperatures were at or below 0C at some part of the day, at the other end of the scale, August 2005 had just 1 day. My lowest August temperature to date is -4.9C shared by 2000 and 200 , The warmest August temperature I've recorded was 23.8C on the 12th August 2002. Snow fell here on the 9th and a smaller amount on the 19th. Both falls covered Sugarloaf on the Port Hills with a nice white cap.

Wind: (Records from 2001) The monthly wind run of 3968km is under the August average of 4375km. The least windy August was 2001 with 3331km, the windiest 2004 with 5654km Prevailing wind direction was south recorded 46% of the month, north east 28%, south west 15%, north and south east 3% each, north west and west 2% each and east 1%. Maximum gust was 54km/h from the south on the 18th. The highest gust for August I've recorded was 68km/h in 2002.

Rainfall: With 103.6mm over 12 days, this was the 3rd wettest August I've recorded. August average rainfall is 83.6mm over 13 days. The wettest August I've recorded is 2004 with 172.4mm and the driest is 2005 with 15.4mm.

Barometer: (Records from 2006) The average pressure for this August was 1008.2 hPa, my August average is 1010.3. Maximum pressure was 1035.6, the highest I've recorded for August was 2007 with 1040.6. The lowest August pressure I've recorded was 2007 with 977.1hPa
