My June

Temperature: A mean temperature of 4.9C, it was the coldest June I've recorded. 2001 came very close with a mean of 5.1C but the temperature sensor I was using at the the time was reading low so its not quite comparable. The warmest June I've recorded was 2004 with a mean temperature of 8.4C. The warmest day was the 11th with 18.9C and warm north to nor'west winds. Coldest temperature was -3.4C with a frosty morning on the 27th.

Wind: The monthly wind run of 2840km is the lowest of the 4 Junes I have records for. The windiest June was 2003 with a wind run of 3795km. Prevailing wind direction was south recorded 45% of the month, north east 24%, south west 19%, north 16%. Maximum gust was 64km/h from the south on the 4th. Three days were recorded as Light Air where there was little wind from any particular direction.

Rainfall: 56mm recorded on the 12th where rain turned to snow about 6:40am. Snow gradually melted in the rain gauge and was recorded as rain. Total for the month was 118.6mm making tis June the wettest I've recorded since starting my station in 2000. Only June 2002 has exceeded 100mm at my station with 115.2mm.

Barometer: The highest pressure for the month was recorded on the 26th with 1032.3hPa, the lowest 986.1hPa on the 16th. No previous barometer history to compare this with.

Rain turning to snow about 6:40am here and falling until about 3pm with about 3cm. Max daytime temperature was 1.0C, with 9.9C recorded at midnight. Schools closed along with the airport. SH1 south closed. Ashburton and Timaru have the biggest snowfalls in 30 years.
